In 2017, Ugandan inventor Brian Turyabagye and his partner Besufekad Shifferaw, created an invention called the Mama Ope. This is a bio-medical smart jacket that helps doctors identify Pneumonia at a rate four times faster than a doctor would and with more accuracy. It analyzes the chest and sends the information via Bluetooth to a smartphone app. They invented this device to help reduce the death rate of Pneumonia in Uganda which accounted for 16% of the 5.6 million deaths among children 5 years and below in 2016 as a result of slow diagnosis.
