South African Designer wins 2019 LVMH Prize

26-year old Thebe Magugu has been adjudged the winner of the LVMH ( Louis Vuitton) Prize, making him the first African to win the prestigious award. The young South African fashion designer beat off competition from other 1,700 applicants to swoop the 300,000 euros prize money and a full year mentoring by Louis Vuitton.

The panel of judges lauded Magugu for the \”originality of his use of cut, colour and materials\”, \”the innate femininity of his easy-to-wear pieces\”, and his incorporation of \”the South African story.\” The works of the Johannesburg-based designer explored the condition of the female force in South Africa.\” The LVMH Prize is a Prestigious award instituted in 2013 by fashion giant Louis Vuitton for young fashion designers.
