Earl Francis Lloyd was a graduate of Parker-Grey High School in 1946 when he received a scholarship to play basketball at West Virginia State University.
He graduated from WVSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 1950 and was drafted in the 9th round with pick 100 by the Washington Capitols in the NBA draft that same year.
Earl Francis Lloyd was one of three black players to enter the NBA at the same time and went on to become the first African-American when he played for the Washington Capitols in the NBA League on the 31st October, 1950.
